Advocacy
Advocacy is about turning your voice into action. At Independence Associates, we support and empower people with disabilities to advocate for themselves and for broader change in the community. We focus on two main types of advocacy: Self-Advocacy and Community & Systems Advocacy.
Self-Advocacy: Empowering Your Voice
Self-advocacy is the process of standing up for your own needs, rights, and goals. At Independence Associates, we believe you are the expert on your life. You know best what challenges you face and what supports you need to live independently.
We’re here to help you build the confidence and skills to speak up for yourself. Whether you’re addressing barriers to housing, education, employment, or transportation, our team can guide and support you in advocating for the services and accommodations you deserve.
We understand that speaking out can sometimes feel overwhelming or intimidating. That’s why we’re here to stand beside you—offering encouragement, resources, and assistance whenever you need it.
Community & Systems Advocacy: Creating Change Together
Community and systems advocacy focuses on creating broader changes that benefit the entire disability community. We work to eliminate systemic barriers by building strong partnerships with schools, businesses, service providers, and local leaders.
Our goal is to foster more inclusive, accessible communities where people with disabilities are not only accepted but fully supported in living independent lives. Through education, outreach, and collaboration, we advocate for policies and practices that promote equity and opportunity for all.
