Personal Care Management
Important announcement!
Independence Associates, Inc. (IA), is no longer accepting applications for the PCA Program.
IA notified MassHealth, It’s One Care Partners, and Senior Care Options partners that it has withdrawn its proposal to provide PCM services effective June 30, 2026.
The PCA Program itself is not closing and Independence Associates is not closing. We will continue providing traditional Independent Living Services in the 31 cities and towns we serve in southeastern MA.
If you are a PCA Consumer, please pay attention to all correspondence from MassHealth, your One Care Provider or SCO as they will be reaching out to you informing you of the PCM you are being transferred to.
The following communication was mailed to all MassHealth PCA Consumers beginning on May 23, 2026
Dear PCA Consumer,
We are writing to inform you that Independence Associates, Inc. is transitioning away from its Personal Care Management program (PCM) at the end of its current contract with MassHealth, which expires on June 30, 2026.
The organization will continue in our core role, providing Independent Living services in the 31 cities and towns that we serve, but will no longer be your point of contact for the PCA Program.
The PCA Program itself is not closing.
All consumers currently receiving PCA Services from Independence Associates will be reassigned to one of the remaining PCMs by MassHealth in the near future. We are working with MassHealth towards a smooth transition.
Please pay attention to any communications you receive from MassHealth, Independence Associates, Tempus Unlimited, South Shore ARC, BCIL, or any other PCMs. As well as One-Care and Senior Care Options providers which also offer PCA services such as Commonwealth Care Alliance, Tufts, United Health Care & Senior Whole Health, and Fallon.
We understand this transition may bring stress to some. Independence Associates has been a PCM for over 30 years. Many of you have been with us for that entire time.
During this transition, staff from IA will still be working with you to assist in a smooth transition to your new PCM. It is our goal to be sure your Prior Authorizations (PA’s) are up to date, and there are no gaps in services as your transition occurs. Consumers are required to have either a signed PCP
Summary Form or an Electronic Medical Record prior to PA submission. Please be prepared to contact your PCP office if necessary, or have access to your online health portal.
If you have questions or concerns during the transition, we can be reached at 508-583-2166 Monday – Friday from 8:45 am until 5:00 pm.
We will continue to advocate for PCA services here in the Commonwealth and participate in the PCA Coalition, as well as continue our efforts to see that Home and Community Based services and supports are always the first option for any person with a disability, versus more restrictive settings.
As many of you know, IA’s service area for PCM services is very large, covering much of Southeastern MA, Cape Cod & the Islands. Our Sister centers, Southeast Center for Independent Living (SCIL) in Fall River/New Bedford and Cape Organization for Rights of the Disabled (CORD) in Hyannis, are aware of this transition and, as always, will be available to assist you with traditional independent living services and advocating alongside you should you need their support.
